Time to say good-bye. And thank you so much for all the confidence you’ve placed in me and our agency and all the support you’ve shown us during my 23 years. I know the staff will continue to do their very best for those who need help under the leadership of our new Executive Director, David Moore. In some respects, David certainly starts from a stronger position than I did when I came here, as he is a Brazoria Co. native, and I, 23 years ago, was a relative newcomer and familiar only with portions of the north end of the county. I remember my first speaking engagement in Lake Jackson. I gave myself over an hour to get there from Angleton. At that time of my life, I could’ve walked there in an hour. True…I would’ve really had to hustle.
I might have retired earlier but for some of you guys whose paths have crossed mine. You’ve made me laugh; you’ve made me cry; you’ve inspired me. You’re brave and generous and kind and smart and hard-working. I’ve learned so much from you. So, in closing, I just want to say that it’s been an honor to travel, in one way or another, alongside you.
And welcome, David!
God bless you, each and everyone,
An opportunity to say Hello;
Each person in their life leaves an imprint on the lives they have encountered. I am one of the many people whose life has been impacted by Vicki. The legacy she crafted with strength, poise, grace and endurance that not many who have lived could match will stand for years to come. As the incoming director of the Women’s Center, I can only hope to look back at the years of serving the Center and the county as she can, but as you all know those tiny shoes of hers have left a huge impression. My desire is to continue in her efforts of embracing the hurting, encouraging the discouraged, and empowering the powerless, hoping to pave a way for those in need to move forward in their lives. The heart of the center is found in all of those who work here and with all of our generous supporters throughout the county. I envision the heart of the Center aching as Vicki moves forward, but healthy and strong as we continue in our journey of putting an end to domestic and sexual violence. I look forward to working alongside each and every one of you.
